You can help Thuli Madonsela: how citizens can protect democracy and rights

South Africa's Public Protector has come under attack from government and the ruling party. Citizen involvement is key to protecting oversight institutions.

In October the term of South Africa’s Public Protector Thuli Madonsela comes to an end. A public debate is needed to ensure that her successor is committed to the Constitution and the rule of law.

Citizens can make submissions to Parliament and influence the process.

This will be an important reminder that Chapter 9 institutions in general need support and scrutiny to ensure they fulfil their Constitutional mandates. The discussion will focus on citizen involvement in appointment processes and the efficacy of Chapter 9 institutions in general.
