View on Africa: peacekeeping in an age of terrorism

How effective is peacekeeping at countering terrorism in Africa?

As terrorism continues to gain currency as one of the most serious threats to global peace and security, the international community, particularly the United Nations and the African Union, are increasingly deploying peacekeepers to deal with this threat.

This growing practice raises fundamental questions about how relevant and effective peacekeeping is as a counter-terrorism tool.

Examples from Mali, Somalia, Uganda, Libya, and Nigeria offer a mixed bag of experiences.

This week’s View on Africa will be presented by Martin Ewi, a senior researcher based in Pretoria. He will critically interrogate the use of peacekeeping as a counter-terrorism measure.
