ISS NEWS SYNDICATION
Activate a Free, Live Newsfeed from the ISS Blog!
What is RSS?
RSS ("Really Simple Syndication" or "Rich Site Summary") is a document specification that gives users the power to collect and organise web-based information (such as live news) in a more efficient manner. Applications that collect data from RSS-compliant web sites are called RSS readers or 'aggregators'. The applications or 'newsreaders' enable the user to gather, organise, update and store information from any compliant source in a convenient, easy to use interface. Atom XML
Atom provides the potential to share the ISS Blog with a wider audience. When you activate Atom syndication, a machine-readable version of the ISS weblog is created that can be picked up and displayed in a variety of ways, including newsreaders, web sites and handheld devices.
To activate a live newsfeed from the ISS Blog, you need to download and install a newsreader. There are various newsreaders that support Atom, including NewsMonster, NewzCrawler, NewsGator, NetNewsWire, Shrook, RSSOwl and BottomFeeder. You can find a growing list of newsreaders at AtomEnabled.org.
The URL to the ISS newsfeed is http://www.issafrica.org/blog/atom.xml (you will need this to establish an ISS newsfeed from within your newsreader).
