Securing young people’s vote is key to winning elections. With local government polls two weeks away, are South Africa’s political parties likely to attract the youth vote?
Drawing on a national study of high school, college and university students, this seminar takes stock of the factors that influence young South Africans’ voting behaviour. The findings show that corruption is a major disincentive to voting, and the ruling African National Congress’ popularity is waning.
A monograph on the research results, Do You Want My Vote? Understanding young South Africans voting behaviour will be launched at the seminar.
