ISS Today, 26 MayDebarment of corrupt businesses and individuals involved in public procurement in South Africa was the topic of a lively roundtable discussion at the Emperor’s Palace in Gauteng on Wednesday 24 May. Members of The National Anti-Corruption Forum including those from civil society, business and government converged to engage in the debates. A key focus within the discussions was the value and use of government and common databases of those debarred.

Henri Boshoff cast doubt on the validity of the charges saying that if indeed the suspects were plotting to distabalise the country in an attempt to create conditions for foreign countries to exploit the rich mineral resources of the DRC, their (suspects' individual countries) governments would never allow such activities by their nationals.

ISS Today, 25 MaySecurity agents in Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), arrested 32 foreigners on Tuesday for plotting a coup against the government of Joseph Kabila, Interior Minister Theophilus Mbemba said. "They came from Iraq, where they worked as soldiers," Mbemba said on Wednesday from Kinshasa. The 12 South Africans, 10 Nigerians and three Americans - all of whom the government describes as mercenaries - were working in Kinshasa for a private security company called Omega.

Meeting for the seventh time since its creation by a UN resolution last year, the international working group met as the clock continues to tick towards the October 31 deadline for new elections in the divided country.
