South Africa: Choice of Scorpions Judge Casts Shadow Over Security Checks
Government's security vetting procedures for high-level appointments have been called into question following the appointment of Judge Sisi Khampepe to examine the future of the Scorpions, despite a possible conflict of interest involving her husband...
...Anton du Plessis of the Institute for Security Studies said the vetting process involved all the intelligence agencies and was so thorough that the NIA 'would have known' of Siza Khampepe's business interests and associations.

South Africa Extends Gun Amnesty, Seen Missing Target
South Africa has extended a gun amnesty aimed at getting illegal firearms off the streets for another three months, but gunowners say it is unlikely to net weapons used for vehicle hijacks or murders...
...But Institute for Security Studies senior researcher Noel Stott said the real problem was much smaller guns used in vehicle hijackings, robberies and domestic disputes.

The government has extended the amnesty for the handing in of illegal firearms until June 30...
